Biman Bangladesh

Biman Bangladesh Airlines is the national airline of Bangladesh. Operating from Zia International Airport, Dhaka, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has both domestic as well as international routes covering destinations in Asia and Europe. Biman Bangladesh Airlines also operates from Shah Amanat International Airport, Chittagong and Osmani International Airport, Sylhet. Bimanbangladesh Airlines is completely owned by the Government of Bangladesh.

Established in the year 1972, Biman Bangladesh Airlines operated in Bangladesh singly and had no competitors for a long 24 years. After that things started changing and private players got entry into the business of aviation. Hogging the limelight for all the wrong reasons, Biman Bangladesh long haul flights are now banned in the US and EU member states for laxity in safety features. Annual hajj flights are what have kept the airline still going from the days of yore.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines started with only two Fokker F27s. These aircraft flew to Chittagong and Sylhet from Dhaka. Later on the fleet was joined in by a Boeing 707, chartered from British Caledonian. Thus began Biman Bangladesh’s international ventures. Three Douglas DC-10 aircraft were bought from Singapore Airlines in 1983. Furthermore, Fokker F28s and BAe ATPs were introduced into the fleet, but were a waste due to faulty technicalities. It was only in 2003 that Biman Bangladesh leased two Boeing 737-300s which served a good job.

Currently Biman Bangladesh Airlines has 3 Airbus A310-300s, McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30s and Fokker F28 MK4000 as its operational aircraft. Plying on both domestic as well as international skies, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has learned quite a lot from its past mistakes and now is in good stead to take note of.

So, if you are planning to make a visit to Bangladesh, do avail the services of Biman Bangladesh and make your trip a memorable one.
