Since 1919, Avianca has remained the national airline of Colombia. In fact, it is the second oldest airline in the world just behind KLM. No wonder it is the largest airline in the country and is the third biggest airline in South America, the first and second positions being taken by TAM and LAN respectively.

Headquartered in Barranquilla, Avianca operates mainly from El Dorado International Airport in Bogota. From this place many chartered flights also take off to various cities in Europe, North America, Central America, South America and Caribbean.

Four subsidiary airlines namely, Helicol in Colombia, OceanAir in Brazil, VIP in Ecuador and Capital Airlines in Nigeria also operate from Avianca. Divided into three different business divisions, namely, Avianca Cargo, Avianca Services and Deskubra, Avianca caters to all types of requirements and budgets of the passengers.

Avianca has its own VIP lounges at the El Dorado International Airport, Bogota, Jose Maria Cordova International Airport, Medellin, Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport, Barranquilla, Mariscal Sucre International Airport, Quito and Jose Joaquin de Olmedo International Airport, Guayaquil. Furthermore, Avianca has its own tourist division by the name of Deskubra, which offers tourist packages to the travelers.

The current fleet of Avianca comprises of 2 Boeing 767-300ERs, 5 Boeing 767-200ERs, 7 Boeing 757-200s, 17 McDonnell Douglas MD-83s, 12 Fokker F100s and 8 Fokker F50s.
