Monarch Airlines

Monarch Airlines came into existence on 1st June 1967 with its headquarters in Luton, England. Monarch airlines spreads its air routes far and wide reaching 20 leisure destinations in Europe, United States, the Caribbean, India and Africa. Monarch operates mainly from London Luton Airport serving far away destinations like the Canary Islands, Mediterranean and Cyprus. The main hubs of Monarch airlines are located in Birmingham International Airport, London Gatwick Airport and Manchester Airport. It operates with a fleet size of 20. Bill Hodgson and Don Peacock founded the Monarch Airlines with finance from the Swiss Mantegazza. The Albek families are it's present owners. Monarch started operating exactly after a year of its birth on 5 April 1968. At that time it had only a Bristol 175 Britannia turboprop at its disposal.

In 1971 the Boeing 720 aircraft pushed Monarch into the jet age and it has not looked back since then. On 5th of July 1986 Monarch started a scheduled division called the Monarch Crown Service. Today Monarch's fleet consists of two McDonnell Douglas, MD-11 aircraft, Airbus A330 and A320 and also a Boeing 757. Monarch remodeled their livery in 2002 to give it a new look and they renamed the 'Monarch Crown Service' to 'Monarch Scheduled'. Monarch introduced a new kind of airbus in 2005, which provided more leg space than the ordinary ones.

Since Monarch caters only to the leisure locations with daily as well as weekly and monthly flight services they seek to maximize the level of comfort they provide to their customers. Recently on 27th April 2007 Monarch has started flights to Ibiza in collaboration with 'HedKandi' and hence the trip is called 'FlyKandi'. These flights will take off from the four major airports of England. Some of the airbuses are painted specially to serve these trips. On board these airbuses there are competition to win gifts like MP3 players and the like. Radio and other songs are also played on these airbuses.

The scheduled destinations of monarch are broadly, Alicante, Almeria, Barcelona, Faro, Gibraltar, Gran Canaria, Granada, Ibiza, Jerez, Lanzarote, Larnaca, Lisbon, Malaga, Menorca, Murcia, Palma and Tenerife South.
