British Midland Airways

The British Midland Airways, presently known as British Midland International is an airline of United Kingdom and based in Donington Hall. Its main hubs are Manchester Airport and the London Heathrow Airport with its headquarters at Castle Donington. The airports witness the landing and arrival of almost 2000 BMI aircrafts in a week’s time. It is known for serving destinations in Caribbean, Europe, Saudi Arabia and United States. For holding the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority Type A Operating License the British Midland Airways, along with passengers, can also carry cargoes and mails.

The inception of the British Midland Airways dates back to 1949 when Derby Aviation Limited was founded. With the change in location to East Midlands Airport, the name was transformed into British Midland Airways as well. It tasted success with the formation of the Manx Airlines in collaboration with British and Commonwealth Shipping and after purchasing Glasgow’s airline, Loganair. Year 2001 witnessed the change in British Midland Airlines’ name further to British Midland International (BMI).
